Changes to the mother-child passport are not intended to improve the health of mother and child

Vienna (OTS) The Liberal Member of the National Council and member of the Health Committee Peter Wurm considered the referral of the change from the mother-child passport to the parent-child passport to the Health Committee to be welcome at today’s National Council meeting: “The changes planned by the ÖVP and the Greens are not regarding Improvements in maternal and child health. It is a purely ideological project by the Greens, who want to force a change in the ideological image here, and the ÖVP, as a former traditional family party, is playing along without resistance. This project is therefore to be rejected in principle! But we also reject the urge of expectant mothers to disclose their data electronically and without any data security!”

Wurm went on to explain why the FPÖ was clearly opposed to a completely electronic mother-child passport: “The mother-child passport is a good project of the former Social Democrats and it has always been regarding protecting the mother’s health during the birth.” to improve pregnancy and the child and thus reduce child mortality. You might also achieve this with the mother-child pass and it still works very well. Basically, however, it must be stated here: It is regarding the mother-child passport. So it’s not regarding the health of the fathers, it’s regarding the health of the mothers and the children. That should be the focus and the completely crude ideas and notions as well as the dissemination of biological untruths, which the ÖVP and Greens plan to make with these changes to the mother-child passport in the parent-child passport, is nothing more than a complete thing for us liberals unworldly, crude, ideological program and we will do everything to prevent that. As a former family party, I also like to give the People’s Party extra tuition here. There are women and men and there are mothers and fathers. But apparently we Liberals are now the only party here that has a reasonable and normal family policy!”

For many women, the mother-child passport in their hands would also have a strong emotional value. In terms of haptics, it therefore has a strong ideal value for many women. The FPÖ is therefore firmly opposed to the mother-child passport in purely electronic form: “Basically, from our point of view, nothing would speak once morest a mother being able to decide for herself whether to use the mother-child passport in its previous form or whether she would like to have it in purely electronic form. Offering this on a voluntary basis would be less of a problem for us. We have always stood for freedom of choice and voluntariness. But what the ÖVP and the Greens are planning with these changes is not voluntary. They force all future mothers into the electronic system with all the problems and difficulties that come with it. Because if the ÖVP and the Greens really want to guarantee 100 percent data security here, I can only laugh at it. Because there is no such thing as 100 percent data security either in Austria or internationally. Every normal citizen knows that sensitive and personal data can often be easily hacked and misused,” emphasized Wurm that “the data security propagated by Health Minister Rauch simply does not exist”.

Contrary to the concerns expressed by lawyers and data protection authorities, the ÖVP and the Greens would pretend that mothers have 100 percent data security, which does not exist: “ÖVP and the Greens are simply acting negligently when they promise mothers that their personal data regarding their pregnancy and to their children would be safe in the electronic mother-child passport and might not fall into the wrong hands. So it would generally be the best idea to scrap the planned projects and the mother-child pass will continue in its current form. If there is a need for improvement, you are welcome to discuss it, and if someone voluntarily wants it electronically, that is not a problem for us either. But the fact that the federal government wants to force all expectant mothers into this very, very insecure system in the future is out of the question for us.”
