FPÖ request in the National Council – tenants and cooperatives must be relieved
Vienna (OTS) – “We libertarians demand real relief and a strengthening of social housing. But the focus of the ÖVP housing policy is on banks and investors. We will not release the government from its responsibility here,” reminded the FPÖ building spokesman NAbg. Mag. Philipp Schrangl discussed aspects of the WGG amendment 2022 and announced a request in the National Council.
“The interest rate increases on the financial markets are sometimes leading to enormous rent increases in non-profit housing. “It is up to the federal government to provide appropriate housing subsidies in order to enable refinancing to reduce rents,” said Schrangl, calling for a federal special-purpose grant. “But media reports suggest that instead the next attack on social housing and thus affordable housing is imminent: the banks’ enormous interest profits are to be effectively guaranteed at the expense of the housing cooperatives. This would lead to the loss of non-profit housing. That won’t happen with us,” said the liberal building spokesman.
Schrangl concludes: “After an alleged rent brake – which is actually tantamount to a gift to real estate speculators – the black-green federal government is once once more acting like an ax in the woods in the cooperative sector. The ÖVP secures bank profits at the expense of cooperative tenants.”
