Affordable housing will soon only be available for the super-rich
Vienna (OTS) – “The supposed balancing of interests between tenants and landlords, which ÖVP MP Johann Singer addressed in yesterday’s brief debate in the National Council, has long since ceased to take place. Because the ÖVP-led Ministry of Economic Affairs is now selling social housing to investors instead of ensuring affordable housing for Austrians. This is an attack on Austria’s tenants,” criticized FPÖ building spokesman NAbg. Mag. Philipp Schrangl describes the “selective housing policy perception of the People’s Party”.
“Explosive increases in benchmarks are presented as a sacred obligation. Affordable housing, on the other hand, will soon only be available for investors who can buy up social housing at the lowest social price and then rent the apartments freely to anyone. Then, of course, people rent out at horrendous rents, which a ‘normal person’ can no longer afford in times of inflation”, Schrangl described this procedure as the “biggest housing robbery of the second republic”.
“The ÖVP does not solve any housing policy problems, but causes them and does so with icy coldness. It would even leave Maggy Thatcher speechless,” Schrangl concludes.
