FPÖ-Resch: Floods in Döbling could have been avoided

Vienna(OTS) –

“Had the municipality not ignored the problem for many years, the flooding in Deblinge could have been controlled or even completely avoided,” said Klemens Resch, chairman of the FPÖ district party in Deblinge.

FPÖ calls for the expansion of sewer networks at municipal and district levels in affected areas. “About every three summers, Heiligenstadt is flooded, and the city government acts as if it can solve the problem by letting people ride bikes instead of driving on vacation. However, the truth is much simpler: It’s not “man-made” climate change that’s causing these floods, it’s the man-made canal network.

Resch said the city would not act purely out of ideological blindness. Most recently, in September 2021, FPÖ-Döbling applied to the regional council for a series of measures to prevent such flooding in the region. The motion was rejected by SPÖ, NEOS and the Green Party. At the municipal level, a similar application filed by FPÖ-Vienna Environment Spokesperson Labg met the same fate – with fatal consequences for residents and passers-by.

“The FPÖ will also present a corresponding proposal at the following meeting. If the municipality continues to stand by, its members will have to take personal responsibility for future damage.
