FPÖ plans election campaign against “self-proclaimed elites”

Both in the national elections and in the EU and state elections in Styria, the “self-appointed elites” will be declared war. “Yes, it will be the big argument,” said the liberal Secretary General Michael Schnedlitz in the APA interview. Despite the ever-shrinking time window, he can imagine that the federal government will still vote early. Schnedlitz senses panic in the ÖVP.

The FPÖ Secretary General, who will manage the election campaign in this capacity together with Christian Hafenecker, believes that “the system” has “run over” the population, especially in recent years. Schnedlitz means, for example, the corona measures, the “climate hysteria” and other measures by the “unity party of these self-proclaimed elites”, the ÖVP. During the election campaign, he wants to call for a “turnaround” in order to put the “interests of the population” back in focus.

Enough voter potential

Schnedlitz, whose party is currently leading many polls, sees potential voters enough: “I think there has been a learning effect. How far the ÖVP, SPÖ, Greens and NEOS are willing to go and treat the population as subjects.” This does not end with the corona measures, but continues, for example, with the Russia sanctions, the “sacrificing of neutrality” and the “coercive measures” in climate policy. “And exactly this lost sense of proportion, that will be the big argument.”

There is no concrete list of personnel for the election campaign in the FPÖ – and that should remain the same as before the previous elections. “We are flexible,” emphasizes Schnedlitz. The motto was to achieve first place. At least in the National Council, but also in Styria. Schnedlitz does not question the fact that Harald Vilimsky is contesting the election to the EU Parliament as the top candidate. This must first be officially decided, probably before the end of this year.

“Panic ÖVP”

Schnedlitz is relaxed regarding the fact that the ÖVP has recently been relying on core demands for freedom – such as anchoring cash payments in the constitution. “We’re continuing our work. But of course, if you look a little closer, it’s an easy game to understand.” A panicked ÖVP is trying to convince the population that elections are worthless by warning FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl, says the FPÖ Secretary General. This is a dangerous game with democracy.

In return, the FPÖ does not exclude anyone, according to Schnedlitz: “For me, everyone is a potential discussion partner.” The Secretary-General emphasizes that one is the only party that is currently doing this. And you will continue this line following every defeated election. “We are relatively open to this and there is no need to say anything negative to the other parties. I wish the ÖVP and SPÖ all the best that they will get back on track really quickly.”

Schnedlitz has not yet lost faith in an early National Council election in the federal government. The window is closing slowly and steadily. Nevertheless, the governing parties ÖVP and Greens have clung to each other in recent months. In any case, the FPÖ never tires of pushing for a new election as quickly as possible. “Then maybe the damage won’t get any bigger, but we’ll get the chance for a necessary trend reversal.”
