LAbg. Ecker: “Government parties have failed the litmus test”

St. Pölten (OTS) As part of a motion on the subject of light pollution, which was submitted by the ÖVP and FPÖ, the Lower Austrian Greens did not let the Lower Austrian state government off the hook.

“The application was largely directed at the federal government, which has hardly any responsibilities in this area. The majority of light pollution can only be reduced by regulations at the state level,” says Ecker. He therefore took the opportunity to submit an amendment to enforce a binding restriction on light pollution at the state level using ÖNORM O 1052. “

Unfortunately, the governing parties have not passed the litmus test. Teaching others something is a simple exercise. If you were to take the topic seriously, you would first think about what you can do within your own sphere of influence. The governing parties have not done this home exercise,” says Ecker.

The aim of ÖNORM O 1052 “Light emissions – measurement and assessment” is to set maximum permissible limit values for the effects of light on people and the environment. “This standard regulates that artificial lighting is not permitted in nature reserves or grassland and that lighting of sleeping and breeding places should be avoided. “This is extremely important so that the wildlife is not disturbed by artificial light,” says LMP Georg Ecker from the Greens.

The Greens’ proposal was rejected by the government majority.
