FPÖ leader Svazek calls for a three-way battle for Salzburg

The election campaign in Salzburg has started: For long-term head of state Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP), the mood might still be uncomfortable, according to the FPÖ. “There is only one party that Governor Haslauer can meet at eye level in this election, and that is the Freedom Party,” says the blue party leader Marlene Svazek.

For months, “Marlene” has been present on election posters in the cityscape. She has respect for Haslauer, but no reverence. The FPÖ expects gains, especially among disappointed ÖVP and Neos voters. The powerful Haslauer party – the party’s own character in the country is always emphasized – might be harmed by the problems at federal level, and Neos boss Andrea Klambauer had to struggle with her own splinter groups. In addition to the FPÖ, the SPÖ, with David Egger at the helm, is hoping for an upswing.

Communities referred to as the backbone

Svazek was flanked at the presentation of the list by Christian Pewny, the only blue mayor in Salzburg, and the Lungau district party chairman Ed Egger. A sign that the FPÖ sees the communities as the backbone.

The FPÖ also takes up the cause of ubiquitous issues such as the fight once morest inflation. The workers are the ones who suffer the most. Regional independence and a strong stationary trade are further topics.
