NEOS Vice Mayor is responsible for scandalous conditions in education and integration
Vienna (OTS) – “Instead of worrying regarding the shortage of teachers in Vienna, the NEOS philosophize regarding green school forecourts at their club retreat and dream of equipping every teacher with a laptop. The second project will be relatively easy given the ever-declining number of teachers,” said the education spokesman for the Viennese FPÖ, club chairman Maximilian Krauss. “If Wiederkehr claims that the NEOS would focus on education in their government work, then this falls under massive misunderstanding of the topic. There is not a word regarding how to help directors from troubled schools, how to solve the language problems and – last but not least – how to start a real job offensive for teachers. After the redistribution of teaching posts by City Councilor Wiederkehr, many Viennese compulsory schools have to make do with fewer teachers, although the number of students is increasing significantly. At the same time, there is an acute shortage of staff in Vienna’s kindergartens. Countless kindergarten teachers migrate to Lower Austria, because the working conditions there are better (higher salaries, no parking sticker). WLAN in every elementary school class will not solve all these problems and is a fair-weather policy that is of little use when the general level of education in Vienna is in decline. The deputy mayor lets students, parents and teachers down. He obviously has no idea regarding the relevant topics in the education sector, but in the best SPÖ manner he increases the food contributions by 10 percent. After all the scandals surrounding kindergarten clubs in recent months, I would have also expected a concept on how to reorganize the allocation and funding so that misuse of funding is finally made impossible.”
The fact that Wiederkehr is also a city councilor for integration and transparency does not seem to be a marginal topic at this pink feel-good meeting, although almost everything is a mess here too. “If NEOS’ only demand is to lower the fees for obtaining Austrian citizenship, then that is an example of its overall failure. And nothing is left of the much-announced measures by NEOS to create more transparency in the area of the city of Vienna’s deep red system. This meaningless exam is the final proof that Wiederkehr with his department is completely overwhelmed and ready for resignation,” concludes Krauss.
