FPÖ – Haider calls for withdrawal from combustion engines | Liberal Parliament Club

Derogation for e-fuels just eyewash

Vienna (OTS) “Exceptional regulations from the ban on combustion engines for e-fuels are just a sham and don’t go far enough,” explained Roman Haider, a member of the European Parliament who is a liberal member of the European Parliament. In 2035, too, there would be neither enough electricity nor enough e-fuels to maintain general mobility in Europe. “The ban on internal combustion engines de facto means mobility only for the rich,” Haider stated.

The German government’s braking on the ban on internal combustion engines is actually only intended to hide its complicity in this destructive measure. “Nevertheless, new opportunities are now opening up once more, as some other EU countries such as Italy, Poland and Bulgaria are also critical of the ban on internal combustion engines,” says Haider. Austria would be well advised to join this front once morest the senseless destruction of one of the most important and innovative branches of industry in Europe. “The ban on internal combustion engines saves less than one percent of global CO2 emissions,” Haider reminded of the ban’s negligible effects. Therefore, the ban must be overturned as a whole, because following all, millions of jobs are at stake across Europe – 400,000 in Austria alone.

The ÖVP must now finally show its colors on this issue, following all, it is a matter of a first-rate industrial policy decision with enormous consequences. “Black MEPs oppose the ban, while the black-led federal government supports the ban on internal combustion engines. It is now up to Chancellor Nehammer whether the ÖVP listens to the voice of reason and opposes the ban on combustion engines or whether it remains in the front of the ideology-driven enemies of industry,” said Haider.
