The approach with biogenic fuel admixture is to be welcomed – completely excessive and unrealistic climate targets remain a problem

Vienna (OTS) – FPÖ transport spokesman and general secretary NAbg. Christian Hafenecker, MA welcomed the study recently presented by the ÖAMTC on the increased use of biofuels and supports the Renewable Fuels Platform (PEK).

“The ÖAMTC has shown a way to achieve the completely unrealistic climate goals set by the black-green federal government and, above all, Minister Gewessler, without degrading drivers as scapegoats and ‘milking cows of the nation’ and without destroying private transport . We libertarians have also been calling for increased use of biofuels for years, most recently on the sidelines of our traffic speaker conference in Innsbruck. The positive savings effects of a higher admixture of gasoline are obvious. It is solely up to the government to take appropriate action here and finally relieve the burden on drivers – and commuters in particular,” said Hafenecker.

“Mobility must not become a luxury good for a select few, as the Greens would like and have been pushing for years in cooperation with the ÖVP. In any case, the ÖAMTC study highlights the need for immediate action. It shows that there is no need for ‘punitive taxes’ such as the unspeakable CO2 tax and that the mineral oil tax might be reduced once more. In general, with us libertarians there will be neither the introduction of city tolls and car-free days nor a reduction in speed limits or a ban on combustion engines. There wouldn’t be many burdens in the transport sector at the moment anyway if Gewessler hadn’t independently set economically damaging and unattainable climate targets that weren’t necessary. Renewable fuels, including openness to technology and further increases in efficiency in the area of combustion engines are the future of mobility, not penalties, bans and ideological narrow-mindedness,” emphasized Hafenecker.
