Libertarians call for a “fortress constitution” to protect once morest encroaching EU policies

Vienna (OTS) In today’s press conference, FPÖ Secretary General NAbg. Christian Hafenecker, MA and FPÖ deputy club chairman as well as spokeswoman for the constitution NAbg. dr Susanne Fürst a “fortress constitution” to protect Austria’s sovereignty from further erosion.

The FPÖ constitution spokeswoman emphasized that Austria is not only a member of the EU, but also a sovereign state. “What this federal government does, what the population thinks and what our constitution says are now different things. In order to close this gap, we Liberals tabled a motion in the parliamentary constitutional committee yesterday, with which neutrality is to be made a fundamental principle of our federal constitution. This requires both a two-thirds majority in Parliament and a referendum,” explained Fürst.

Article 1 of the Federal Constitution should be specified: “Austria is a democratic, well-fortified, always neutral, sovereign republic.” This should go hand in hand with an addition to Article 44 paragraph 4, so that Article 1 will have greater validity. Amendments should then only be possible with increased quorums in Parliament and referendums. “‘Defined’ because the neutrality status obliges us to a strong military national defense, which the FPÖ has always advocated and which has been neglected in recent years,” said the liberal constitutional spokeswoman.

Since the perpetual neutrality is currently being reduced more and more to its military core, it must also be expressly enshrined in the constitution: “An active policy of neutrality is needed once more, which is respected by international organizations and also the EU institutions in times of peace. In the event of conflict, keeping Austria out of the conflict must be the top priority for the government and the interests of the Austrian population must be given priority. That also means rhetorical restraint. The black-green federal government does not do justice to all of this, on the contrary, it is shredding our neutrality!”

Furthermore, the “encroaching policy of the EU” and the case law of the ECJ are problematic for Austria’s sovereignty. “When we joined the EU, it was clearly regulated which competences the EU would receive and which would remain with the national states. However, the Union is sticking less and less to this and the underlying treaties. Therefore, with the specification of Article 1 demanded by us Liberals, a constitutional core must be created that is protected from being ousted by the encroaching EU and the ECJ,” said Fürst.

The focus is therefore on formulating what already exists and what has been agreed more specifically, so that our neutrality and sovereignty can be defended by politicians: “For this we need a ‘fortified constitution’ to protect Austria’s sovereignty!”

FPÖ General Secretary NAbg counted concrete examples of the erosion of Austrian sovereignty. Christian Hafenecker, MA introductory. “Chancellor Nehammer’s car summit in particular is a red-hot example of how the ÖVP speaks with a forked tongue and why our sovereignty needs special protection. Because the chancellor watched idly as his Green Environment Minister Gewessler made a pilgrimage to Brussels and always raised her hand for the ban on internal combustion engines. If he and the ÖVP were really serious, they would have had enough opportunities in the last few months to approve liberal applications for the preservation of the internal combustion engine,” criticized Hafenecker, recalling that more than 370,000 jobs in the state depend directly or indirectly on the automotive industry . Individual mobility should not be reserved for “bonzes”.

Likewise, the cash ban, which is now being discussed more and more openly, is a “further deep grip of the Kraken EU in national law” and not anchored in the basic principles of the EU: “The EU Commission is planning a cash upper limit of 10,000 euros, the EU Parliament even wants such a limit already at 7,000 euros and in the end there may not be any cash payments at all. That too must be prevented.”

In addition, the EU has mutated into a debt union, especially since the “Greece bailout”, for which the member countries and their citizens have to pay. “In 2021, EUR 750 billion in debt was also raised for a COVID recovery fund. Commission President von der Leyen has promised Ukraine a further 18 billion euros for reconstruction this year, the total costs of which are estimated at more than 400 billion euros. As with the self-destructive sanctions, the citizens, as sovereign, were not asked whether they actually wanted that,” explained the liberal Secretary General.

However, one of the duties of the EU is to ensure that the member states comply with rules among themselves. “Because now there are quite openly arms transports for the Ukraine through Austrian territory. This was only shown by the tank howitzer transport in the last few days, where it was then perfidiously argued that it was on its way from Italy to Poland. Where is the EU when it comes to the state integrity of a neutral member country? Where are the ÖVP Federal Chancellor and the ÖVP Minister of Defense if our neutrality is being disregarded? Neither the NATO member Hungary nor Switzerland permit such transports. Last but not least, the EU is also completely failing when it comes to external border protection, as evidenced by 110,000 asylum applications in Austria in 2022, and is instead thinking regarding resettlement and legal escape routes,” criticized the FPÖ Secretary General.
