Because Brunner wants to see “the big picture” in inflation. “However, inflation in Austria is high, higher than the EU average and five times as high as in neighboring Switzerland. There is nothing to defend, nothing to gloss over, and certainly not to blame the necessary high wage settlements – that’s just pathetic. They wouldn’t be necessary at all if the ÖVP and the Greens didn’t stand by and watch the price increase,” said Fuchs.
Even if the Finance Minister does not like to compare himself with other countries when it comes to inflation, he finds it easier to compare purchasing power with neighboring countries, even though the Momentum Institute has calculated a loss of purchasing power in the country of around minus six percent. “And so the discussion continues. Also on the subject of cold progression, which according to the black-green government should be abolished. This is sheer nonsense, because with record inflation of 7.1 percent, the cold progression is only compensated with 3.46 percent, the two lowest tariff levels receive a compensation of 6.3%. So cold progression has not been abolished for 2023 – even if the black-green federal government claims otherwise! ”Explained the FPÖ financial expert.
The defense of the record excess profits of the energy companies and a 5.5 billion euro distribution to companies via the energy cost subsidy II is further evidence of the ÖVP’s clientele policy. “In addition, there are tax gifts like the Kika/Leiner scandal, with 150 million euros being given away here alone. While small companies have to repay their deferrals, companies with good ÖVP contacts earn a golden nose,” says Fuchs.
“If the ÖVP minister then remarks that he wants to win back the voters’ trust, you have to ask him how he intends to do that with a green coalition partner,” Fuchs added.
