Vienna (OTS) In her contribution to the debate, Rosa Ecker, a member of the National Council, emphasized once once more that the issue of care is one of the greatest challenges of our time and that it is high time to recognize the importance of care and to provide sufficient support for those who take on this important task.

“It is gratifying that the government has now recognized that the requirement for a common budget is too much to ask. Because very often relatives take over the care activities, although they live in another household in the same house or a little further away. However, what we don’t understand is that the dependents bonus is only granted once. For example, if a daughter cares for both her mother and father, both of whom have care level 4, the family bonus is only paid once. Here the state saves at least 6,000 euros a month, because that would cost two nursing places in a retirement home,” explained Ecker and added: “It is also incomprehensible that the relatives’ bonus is not granted for care levels 1 to 3, especially once morest the background that ratings are often underestimated.”

“Nursing does not affect the pension as much, as a calculation example from the last answer to my inquiry shows: After the birth of her disabled child, the mother takes care of it herself. In addition to grooming, she can only do minor work. For the four years of child-raising time, there is the option of non-contributory self-insurance due to the care. When she retires, this woman with 480 insurance months, ie 40 years of care, would receive a pension of EUR 954, which is less than the compensatory supplement. That’s embarrassing! In comparison, inpatient care would amount to more than 1.5 million euros just for these 40 years!” Ecker continued.

It should also be mentioned that if we had to care for even a small proportion of those who are cared for at home in retirement homes, our care system would collapse completely due to the shortage of caregivers. “It is therefore immensely important that we focus on home care and mobile care instead of an inpatient stay.”
