The number of Muslims in Austria has exploded in the last few decades
Vienna (OTS) – After the large demonstrations in Germany, in which Muslims openly demanded the transformation of the country from a democracy into a caliphate, there is also fear in Austria of similar excesses of a failed asylum policy of recent years under the responsibility of ÖVP interior ministers. FPÖ security spokesman NAbg. Hannes Amesbauer: “If developments continue like this, Austrians will soon be strangers in their own country.” A look at the numbers proves him right: While the proportion of Muslims in Austria was one percent in 1981, it has risen dramatically since then . In 2001, 4.2 percent of people living in Austria were Muslims, in 2021 there were almost twice as many at 8.3 percent. This is shown by the data from Statistics Austria.
In Vienna the situation is even more dramatic. This was already 14.8 percent in 2021 – almost one in seven! – the people of Muslim faith living in the federal capital. Amesbauer: “This increase is alarming – and yet the ÖVP doesn’t want to hear regarding asylum caps, as Chancellor Nehammer confirmed just yesterday in an interview with Oe24. And this despite the fact that the ÖVP and SPÖ launched a paper following the asylum disaster in 2015 in which such upper limits were set. This alone shows that the ÖVP’s efforts in the asylum area are focused on staging – unfortunately the ÖVP does not take any concrete action.”
Amesbauer called for a complete reversal of momentum in asylum and migration policy, which, however, might not be achieved with an ÖVP in government responsibility. “That’s why it’s so important that the FPÖ implements ‘Fortress Austria’ with a liberal People’s Chancellor Herbert Kickl. That means an asylum cap of ‘zero’ through the consistent deattractiveness of Austria for illegal immigrants,” said FPÖ security spokesman NAbg. Hannes Amesbauer. The ÖVP has already shown several times that it cannot do it: “Between the ÖVP record waves in 2015/16 and since 2021, only Herbert Kickl in the Interior Ministry has managed to bring the numbers down massively!”
