Fourth case of wild poliovirus poliomyelitis…

Au Pakistanfollowing the reporting of 3 cases of poliomyelitis at Wild poliovirus type 1 (news 19132, 19169 and 19234) the health authorities of the country reported a fourth case identified in the Waziristan du Norda district of the province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. This is a 13-month-old boy who presented with onset of paralysis on May 5 at Mir Ali. The case was confirmed by the Pakistan National Polio Laboratory from the National Institute of Health, Islamabad, on Monday, May 23. This is the third case in Mir Ali this year.

The southern districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, namely the Waziristan du Nord and the Waziristan du Sud, DI Khan |, Bannu, Tank et Lakki Marwat, are the most exposed to wild poliovirus. But current wild poliovirus transmission is not limited to North Waziristan, with two positive environmental samples between April and May this year reported in Bannu.
