Four Guayacitanos lost their lives after the river flooded in Táchira (+ video)

Four other fatal victims are from the state of Táchira. Search efforts continue because there are still missing persons.

Four Guayacitanos lost their lives following the sudden flooding of a river located in the Lobatera municipality, Táchira state. They were part of a group of 32 people who were at a youth retreat organized by the El Maestro de Minifincas Methodist Church.

The human losses involve boys no older than 27 years of age.

The Guayacitanos were identified as Franyer Nieto, 17, John Jáuregui, 23, Valentina Velásquez, 15, and Víctor Ramírez, 27.

The latter was a student in Ucab Guayana and it is said that he saved at least three people before being swept away by the waters.

Four other tachirenses were identified this Saturday, they respond to the names of 21-year-old Leonela de Navas, 25-year-old Elian Navas, 19-year-old Leydi Suárez and 15-year-old Eliany Pineda.

The relatives of the victims are carrying out the wake procedures, and also to transfer them to their cities.

Withdrawal

This recreational activity took place in alliance with religious leaders of said congregation, belonging to the headquarters of Ciudad Guayana and Táchira state. The group stayed in a club called Potrero de las Casas, where they developed part of the planned schedule.

It was learned that 21 people decided to go to a nearby creek, apparently calm and harmless, known as La Molinera. However, from one moment to another, it suddenly grew due to the overflow of a nearby flow.

Some were able to get out, others managed to be rescued. The search work began on Friday and the findings were recorded on Saturday.

Anny Monsalve, 21, and Karina Franchesca Nieto, 12, are still missing.

Commissions present

The officials who supported the search and rescue work belong to the different security agencies of the Táchira state. Among them, 17 members assigned to Civil Protection; 15 soldiers from the Táchira State Police (PET); eight from the Bolivarian National Police (PNB), seven from the Cicpc and six from the GNB.
