Four former and current executives of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions arrested for contacting North Korean agents overseas

    Four former and current executives of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions were arrested on charges of contacting North Korean agents overseas.

    Cha Jin-seok, chief judge in charge of warrants at the Suwon District Court, issued arrest warrants for four people, including Mr.

    Deputy Judge Cha explained the reason for issuing the warrant, saying, “The crime charges have been clarified, and there is a risk of destroying evidence and escaping.”

    Earlier, the National Intelligence Service and the National Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency applied for arrest warrants for Mr. A and others.

    From 2017 to last year, Mr. A is accused of meeting operatives belonging to the North Korean Workers’ Party’s South Korean agency three times in Guangzhou, Cambodia, Phnom Penh, Vietnam, and Hanoi, Vietnam.

    In addition, it is known that he exchanged reports to North Korea and directives to South Korea over 100 times while communicating with the North for several years.

    The remaining three, for whom arrest warrants have been issued, are also suspected of meeting North Korean agents in Hanoi, Vietnam.
