Four Dutch people died in an accident on the German autobahn A3 near Emmerich, just across the German-Dutch border: three men aged 39, 42 and 56 and a 37-year-old woman. A fifth occupant was slightly injured. They were involved in the accident three Porsches with Dutch registration who were driving on the A3 towards Cologne on Sunday morning at around 10.45am.
According to NOS, the 42-year-old from Voorhout driving a Porsche Cayman lost control and ended up in a ditch. There was also a woman in the car. A German police spokesman says aquaplaning has probably occurred, says NOS
One of the other two drivers, a 39-year-old man from Nieuwegein saw the incident and stopped to offer help. At that moment the driver of the third Porsche, a 56-year-old man from Waterland, also lost control of the steering wheel on the same stretch of road and rammed the others.
The 37-year-old female passenger in the Porsche who had crashed first and the man she had tried to to rescue her they died instantly. The drivers then died, one in the helicopter that was transporting him to the hospital and one when he had already reached the facility.
There was another man in the Porsche 911 who collided with the others: according to the German police, he suffered only minor injuries. L
The A3 to Cologne was closed until the evening for investigations and to remove parts of the car.
A police spokesman says the crash may have been caused by the vehicles not adapting their speed to the amount of water on the road.
