Four people were killed when a US military plane crashed during an exercise in Norway. The police in the Norwegian province of Nordland confirmed this today following a report by the public broadcaster NRK. The dead are said to have been US citizens.
Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Störe expressed his condolences to the relatives and comrades of the victims. “Our deepest sympathy goes to the families of the soldiers, relatives and comrades in their unit,” he wrote on Twitter.

It was initially unclear why the V-22 Osprey plane crashed. The police announced investigations. The flight took place as part of the Cold Response exercise.
The main part of the defense exercise began on Monday. The maneuver, in which numerous NATO members are involved, is scheduled to end on April 1st. The main activities should first be on water and in the air. Cold Response takes place every two years in winter conditions in Norway. Around 30,000 soldiers from 27 NATO and partner countries are involved, including thousands of land, sea and air forces.
