PARIS (AP) — Four bodies were found overnight in another suspected drowning of migrants trying to cross the dangerous English Channel from northern France, authorities said Sunday.

Another person rescued in critical condition was receiving treatment in a hospital in the French coastal town of Boulogne-sur-Mer, according to the French maritime authorities for the English Channel and the North Sea.

The incident occurred early Sunday morning near Wimereux, a coastal town north of Boulogne, the maritime prefecture said, where people appeared to be trying to reach a boat from the beach.

At one point, no further details were available regarding the deceased, the agency said.

Drownings, shipwrecks and other sometimes fatal incidents, often on overcrowded and flimsy boats, are common on migrant routes crossing the busy area separating northern France from southern Britain.
