According to the Institute of Studies for Development and Peace (Indepaz), the event caused the death of four Awá indigenous people and left two injuredwho were transferred to the hospital in the municipality of Ricaurte, 40 minutes from the scene of the events.

This would be the 58th massacre in Colombia so far this year. According to Indepaz, the organized armed groups operating in the area are the ELN, the Oliver Sinisterra Front and other local structures.

For its part, the Ombudsman’s Office issued Early Warning 45/19 since 2019, in which it indicates that these illegal groups are intimidating and attacking the inhabitants of the municipalities of Barbacoas, Ricaurte and San Andrés de Tumaco, in Nariño.
