In terms of sport, things are going brilliantly for SK Vorwärts Steyr after relegation from the second highest division in the regional league: Despite the total upheaval in the summer, the red jackets are in a strong fourth place and won 2-0 in the Upper Austria derby against Wallern on Friday achieved first victory in the spring.
The financial figures cannot keep up with the performance on the pitch: before the home duel against the Trattnachtaler, the Red-Whites published a call for help to fans and potential investors on their club website in order to cope with the precarious financial situation. A lot of money was wasted in the attempted attempt to establish professional football in Steyr – the club has long been lagging behind in terms of infrastructure. A potential investor should have led the club back up and also been an important support in infrastructure projects such as the construction of a training center. But nothing came of it – the deal literally fell through at the last second, as Steyr sports director Gerald Perzy reveals: “The contracts were already prepared, but the investor backed out at the last minute. It would have been a big deal, with the idea of moving towards the Bundesliga. “
The club’s current status is a long way from professional football: “The budget is unlikely to be any higher for the coming season.” Which is why his club went public with a cry for help: “The board wanted to wake us up. Without additional help, we don’t need to dream of being promoted again in Steyr.”
SPG Wels messes up again
The dream of the 2nd league has also shattered at SPG Wels, at least for this season: After the second defeat of the spring, the 2:3 at the third from last, ASK Klagenfurt, the team of coach Emin Sulimani is already twelve points behind leader Voitsberg.
