Umm Al Quwain, 1st November / WAM / Umm Al Quwain University, represented by the College of Mass Communication, organized a forum entitled “Climate Change…Challenges and Opportunities” that shed light on the UAE’s efforts and contributions in confronting the challenges related to climate change. The forum was attended by Sheikh Mohammed bin Surur Al Sharqi, Sheikh Zayed bin Jamal bin Saqr Al Qasimi, and Dr. Jalal Hatem, Director of Umm Al Quwain University, in addition to social media influencers, academics, and representatives of government departments and institutions.

The forum’s topics focused on presenting the most important global challenges resulting from climate change, and the most important opportunities available to reduce the risks of climate change, in addition to discussing the responsibility of individuals and institutions in protecting the planet Earth.

The aim of the forum, which was organized as part of a graduation project for public relations students at the university, was to spread awareness of the importance of climate change and its impact on the environment, economy and public health, in addition to enhancing individual and collective responsibility towards preventing the causes of climate change, and strengthening the role of educational institutions in supporting and encouraging researchers and those interested in the environmental field. By working to discuss challenges and opportunities to reduce the effects of climate change.

The forum’s activities included a dialogue session entitled “The UAE’s Efforts to Address Climate Change,” in which Dr. Suzan Marawan Shaheen, a food and agricultural scientist and head of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Umm Al Quwain University, and Engineer Abdullah Mustafa Aqeela, a maintenance engineer in waste management in the Umm Al Quwain Municipality Department, and Ahmed Al-Tayeb, participated. Hamed is an environmental inspector in the municipality of Umm Al Quwain. The session was moderated by journalist Muhammad Omran.

The participants in the session presented the efforts made by the UAE to enhance international collective action to address sustainability challenges and its role in searching for innovative solutions that benefit everyone, in addition to discussing the most important challenges facing climate change and its implications. The participants in the session presented the educational and awareness-raising initiatives and programs that It has been implemented by Umm Al Quwain University and the Municipality Department since the beginning of the year with institutions to confront environmental challenges and promote sustainable development.

The forum’s activities also included a workshop entitled “Climate Change… Causes, Results, and Methods of Addressing It,” presented by Noura Al Shamsi, a senior numerical forecasting specialist at the National Center of Meteorology, who spoke regarding the most important challenges facing the climate in the region, in addition to her presentation of cloud seeding in the Emirates, which is one of the strategies. The state faces water challenges, and introduces attendees to cloud seeding technology.

For his part, the student, Ali Muhammad bin Haramish Al Shehhi, who supervises the work of the committees and follows up on the preparation and coordination of the forum, explained the students’ keenness through the forum to highlight the efforts of the UAE in the field of climate change, in addition to the students’ keenness to exchange experiences and ideas to confront climate challenges and reduce their effects, and to know the best global practices. In the field of dealing with the risks of climate change, in addition to presenting innovative ideas to deal with the risks resulting from climate change.

The attendees inspected the photo exhibition held on the sidelines of the forum, which displayed a group of photos that displayed the impact of natural disasters on the environment and infrastructure and their change in the features of many cities in the world.

In conclusion, Sheikh Mohammed bin Suroor Al Sharqi and Dr. Jalal Hatem honored the participants in the forum.
