With the announcement of the Steam Deck, many fans expected to see Fortnite land on Valve’s console. Unfortunately, that won’t be the case anytime soon…

The announcement of Steam Deck was more than attractive. Indeed, this console / touch pad, produced by Valve Corporation, was announced with the promise of finding its Steam games directly on it. Thus, many gamers expected to be able to play Fortnite sur Steam Deck.

However, this will not happen when the console is released, scheduled for February 28, 2022. The reason: it will be far too complicated to fight cheaters. Indeed, this is the response given by Tim Sweeney, director of Epic Games, to a user and fan of Fortnite on Twitter. Epic Games uses its own anti-cheat software, Easy Anti-Cheat, and the latter would therefore be the cause of the incompatibility of Fortnite with the Steam Deck. Nevertheless, this does not mean that Provided will never come to Steam Deck. As Tim Sweeney says: “(…) there is a big effort underway to maximize the compatibility of Easy Anti-Cheat with the Steam Deck”.

Moreover, it would seem that this decision was also taken for financial reasons. As the boss of Epic Games indicates in another tweet: “We don’t have confidence that we can fight cheating at scale across a wide range of kernel configurations, including custom ones. Epic would be happy to put Fortnite on Steam. We wouldn’t be happy to give Steam 20-30% of the game’s revenue for this privilege. Steam Deck hardware support is another matter. »
