With the recent success of Super Mario Bros.: The Movie and The Last of Us series, the supposed curse of video game adaptations may be breaking. Maybe it’s too early to hit the ground running, but without a doubt the big studios should continue to bet more heavily on this lode. And, thinking regarding popular games, how regarding a Fortnite movie or series?
Well, Epic’s creative director, Donald Mustard, in an interview with the Collider portal, already has an answer on the tip of his tongue —there is nothing going on for now. However, he is well aware of what he would (or will) do if these plans become more concrete, and he says he is sure that this adaptation would receive the green light from any studio in a second – mainly thanks to the fact that Epic has a financial investment in the AGBO, producer of Joe and Anthony Russo.
The company would have other priorities right now (the game itself), but Mustard says he’d like to “make things that always feel authentic and make a great story.” [para a adaptação de Fortnite], but it is not the focus now. I have no time”.
If this adaptation takes off, it will be interesting to follow the strategies of Epic, which has already worked Fortnite in several ways, and this would be another chapter for its transmedia catalogue. It is also worth remembering how the game has incorporated, throughout its seasons, Hollywood figures, such as Jason Momoa appearing as Aquaman, as well as characters from the Star Wars franchise and Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam.
