Without warning, the phenomenon Fortnite has just landed on the Xbox cloud gaming service. And therefore by extension on the iPhone.
Fortnite today has the honor of becoming the first non-Game Pass title playable through Xbox Cloud Gaming. From this announcement, we obviously retain that it finally makes Fortnite once more playable on iOS devices, thus remedying the exile to which the game was condemned since August 2020 in reason for the conflict between Epic Games and Apple regarding the App Store Terms of Service.
Premier free-to-play
Le battle royale from Epic Games thus becomes the first title free-to-play to integrate the Xbox cloud catalog. And this integration is done according to the rules of the art: indeed, Fortnite also becomes the first free-to-play title. That is to say, no subscription is required to play it via the Xbox Game Pass. The company describes this integration as “a first step”from which she wishes “learn, collect and implement user feedback” before getting down to taking other free-to-play on the cloud.
The Xbox Cloud Gaming library continues to grow every month, although the service is still in beta, but it’s usually the games in the Xbox Game Pass library that move to Cloud Gaming. Surprisingly, it looks like Microsoft is making an exception this time around, offering a cheeky loophole for Fortnite to return to Apple devices.
Microsoft has just pulled the rug out from under Nvidia: the latter thought it had the preview of the return of Fortnite on iOS via cloud gaming, and had even announced it with great fanfare in November 2021.
Xbox Gaming Cloud is accessible for free on all devices where the service is available, including iPhone and iPad, even without an Xbox Game Pass subscription.
