A few weeks ago now, following Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation, decided to invade Ukraine, many players in the video game industry decided to give maximum support to the country of Eastern Europe. Today, Ukraine takes the floor to thank one of them.
Over $50 million raised
Sony, Microsoft, CD Projekt… As you probably already know, many publishers and other developers have supported the victims of the crisis in Ukraine. After the words of these studios, Epic Games joined the movement. The American publisher has indeed indicated on March 20 commit to pay all profits made on Fortnite between March 20 and April 3, 2022 to various associations (DirectReflief, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), World Food Program (WFP) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)) to help victims of the war in Ukraine. In just a few hours, Epic Games, thanks to Fortnite and many players, collected the sum of 36 million dollars, which is equivalent to 32.6 million euros.
Today, three days following setting up the fundraiser, the publisher has exploded the records; Thanks to players, Fortnite raised a total of $50 million. Obviously, this effort did not go unnoticed, since the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister decided to take the floor to thank Epic Games.
Ukraine thanks Epic Games
It was yesterday evening that Mykhailo Fedorov, the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister, thanked the publisher and developer of Fortnite on Twitter.
Thank you Epic Games for understanding that people’s lives are not a game. Your support is critically important to us. Mykhailo Fedorov, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine
According to Joe Tidy, a cyber-reporter for the BBC, this sum raised by Epic Games is “probably the highest of any private company in the world”. He even adds that some countries have failed to collect such a sum to help the Ukrainians.
Note that the harvest carried out by Epic Games is only in its infancy since the movement will continue until April 3. If you want to show your support, just go to the in-game store to buy the current Battle Pass or many skins for your heroes.
