The path of Forspoken does not seem obvious at all, after an announcement that intrigued, the title struggled to arouse enormous enthusiasm, while remaining quite expected and in the news. Unfortunately, a recent video posted on social media has earned the game a wave of mockery.

From city girl to warrior battling dragons

Announced in 2020 by Square Enix as Project Athia, The prophesied is an action-RPG that will put us in the shoes of Frey Holland, a young New Yorker transported to the magical world of Athia, populated by monsters, strange creatures and dragons. Lost, she quickly discovers le Cuffa magic armband offering him a chance to survive the Break, a kind of parasite that destroys everything it touches. This strange phenomenon turns animals into monsters and humans into ultra-aggressive beings.

Fortunately, Frey can count on some of the inhabitants of this strange land, including Johédy and Auden. Initially, the title was to arrive in May, before being postponed to allow the developers to spend a huge polish. Square Enix had then fixed the October release date, within an end of the year overloaded with releases (God of Wars, Pokémon, Skull & Bones…). Eventually Forspoken was shifted again, and should arrive in our hands on January 24, 2023on PS5 and PC.

Among the few criticisms addressed to the game, we often find that targeting Frey, seen by some players as too cliché: young, orphan, transported from the real world into a heroic-fantasy world. And the latest video posted by Square Enix on social media earned Forspoken some teasingwhile its objective was to quickly present the situation in which the main character finds himself.

A new beautiful and cruel land? Twisted monsters? An array of magical abilities? Sensitive jewelry!? Ok, let’s take stock. I’m somewhere that isn’t Earth… I see bloody dragons… And oh yeah, I’m talking to an armband. Yeah okay, that’s my thing now. I do magic, I kill big critters, maybe I’ll start flying afterwards.

When the internet takes over the subject and launches a wave of parodies

Some are sincerely frightened by the potential level of writingwhen others have demonstrated talent for parodying the video. Anyway, the tone of the video was deemed ridiculous by many people. Among the funniest parodies is that of SungWon Cho, which replays the scene disguised as Mario, Marie from Animal Crossing, and even Monokuma, the diabolical bear from DanganRompa.

another parody supports God of War and is signed Nicholas Kole. Of course, it also uses the phrasing of the Square Enix video, with a dialogue written in the name of Kratos:

Who me ? Yeah, I’m a fucking GOD. “Shyeah” I’m totally caught up in this ax life. That handsome devil next to me? Family is literally my BOY. He can thank me for his beauty AND his formative trauma. It’s not easy to fight damn VIKINGS. But honestly? Being a “ragnaroxx” parent

The last parody we selected was designed by Jake Baldino, and is about Metal Gear Solid and its hero, Solid Snake. And as you will see, it works very well:

Ok, let’s take stock. I am somewhere after the end of the Cold War. I fight terrifying bipedal robots capable of launching nuclear weapons, and I talk to… an anime fan?!
