Raquel Sánchez, coordinator of the non-governmental organization (NGO) Foro Penal in the state of Táchira, confirmed the arrest of singer Wilmer Ramón Álvarez Vargas, known as Willy Álvarez, at a Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) checkpoint in the state.
According to the lawyer, Álvarez is the author of the songs that liven up the campaign events of the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD).
Sanchez said the singer was arrested along with two other people. It is not yet known where they are being held.
“Our lawyer José Contreras was assisted by Captain W. García, who stated that the detainees were in the zone 21 command (formerly Core 1) in San Cristóbal (…) Officials of the zone 21 command indicated that the detainees were no longer at the site and that they had no information on the matter,” Sánchez detailed in a publication on his account on X on July 13.

The coordinator of the Criminal Forum in Táchira stated that the physical presentation hearing is expected to take place on Sunday, July 14, since the legal period for such an act has expired.
Other detainees
On July 13, the NGO Foro Penal confirmed on its social media that among the three detainees reported in Carabobo state is Miere Eduardo Aguilar Sequera, a worker, political activist and general coordinator of the United Social Front of San Diego, Carabobo.
These arrests occurred in the context of the rally in Valencia, Carabobo state, in support of the political leader María Corina Machado and the MUD candidate, Edmundo González.
Likewise, attorney Luis Armando Betancourt indicated that the driver and passengers of the truck that transported Machado and González during the mobilization were also arrested.
For his part, the director of the Penal Forum, Gonzalo Himiob, said that they received the report of the arrest of opposition political activists in Guanare, Portuguesa state.
María Oropeza, state coordinator of Vente Venezuela in Portuguesa, reported through her social networks on July 13 that state forces officers raided the home of Mary Rodríguez, campaign director of the Capital Guanare parish.
Rodríguez was arrested along with Mayra Montilla, who is also part of María Corina Machado’s campaign.
The case of Aldo Roso Vargas and Ricardo Albacete Vidal
On July 12, Attorney General Tarek William Saab confirmed the Arrest of citizens Aldo Roso Vargas and Ricardo Albacete Vidal for allegedly being part of a conspiracy to sabotage Venezuela’s electrical system.
“After gathering sufficient evidence, on July 9, arrest warrants were requested from the competent courts once morest Aldo Roso Vargas and Ricardo Alberto Albacete Vidal,” Saab said at a press conference.
The official added that search warrants were also issued for several properties located in Caracas, Táchira and Mérida, which are allegedly linked to the accused.
Aldo Roso Vargas was arrested on July 10 in El Valle, Caracas; while Ricardo Albacete was arrested on July 11 on Libertador Avenue in Caracas.
Albacete had hosted María Corina Machado in her home, located in the state of Táchira, when she visited the entity on June 28.
