Paris: Danish driver Kevin Magnuson returned to the Haas Formula One team to replace Russian Nikita Mazepin, who lost his seat in the American team due to his country’s invasion of Ukraine.
The Haas team said that the 29-year-old Dane signed a “contract for several years”, and he will be with the team in the pre-season tests scheduled between Thursday and Sunday at the Bahrain International Circuit, which is also hosting the opening round on the 20th of this month.
good decision
“I am delighted to welcome Kevin Magnuson back to the Haas F1 team,” the team quoted Italian-American director Gunther Steiner as saying. “When we were looking for a driver who might add value to the team, not to mention a wealth of F1 experience, Kevin made an obvious decision for us.”
On Saturday, Haas announced the termination of the contract of Mazepin and its sponsor Uralkali due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, saying in its statement, “Like the rest of the Formula One community, the team is shocked and saddened by the invasion of Ukraine, and wishes a speedy peaceful end to the conflict.”
Manounson, who has so far ran 119 races in the first category, defended the Haas colors between 2017 and 2020, following also testing with McLaren and Renault.
