Toto Wolff, the director of Mercedes F1, is formal: Lewis Hamilton can win the British Grand Prix this weekend at Silverstone.
Since the beginning of the season, the German team has been in difficulty because of the rebound which has strongly affected its single-seater, even if the situation seems to be improving from race to race. And with the introduction of a new package this weekend, it hopes to get even closer to Red Bull and Ferrari.
“I think if we give him a car that’s only a few tenths off the leader he will win the race,” Wolff told Archyde.com.
“He is the most complete driver and everyone has their favorite circuit. For Lewis it has always been Silverstone, as well as Montreal and Hungary too.”
“I imagine if you have 150,000 people supporting you in the stands, that gives you a real advantage at home.”
And Wolff confirms that he expects these developments to reduce the gap to the best, and that he would be just as happy if it was the other Mercedes, that of George Russell, which won this weekend.
“I hope we will have something that will allow us to be closer to the leaders on this circuit,” continues the Austrian.
“Lewis deserves a big result and a win as he has been particularly unlucky this season, George meanwhile has driven spectacularly. It would be just as good to see George win the British Grand Prix either way. would be very exciting.”
