Fred Vasseur, Team Chef: “Tonight is the culmination of an incredible job that everyone on the team has done, both on the track and in Hinwil. P6 in the championship exceeds our expectations and the goals we set ourselves at the beginning of the season, so we can certainly say that this season has been a success: I am proud of what we have achieved. Tonight’s race was all regarding the championship result: we knew coming from the back would be difficult to score points alone, but we were able to work as a team and make strategic decisions to keep the fight for P6 in our to steer direction. Things ended up being a little more exciting than we had hoped following Hamilton’s retirement and the final laps were a nail-biter! But we brought it home, that’s what counts and you can see what it means to all of us.”
Valtteri Bottas (15.): “I’m very happy for the team. It’s an important result and you can see what it means for each of us. It was close, very close in our fight for P6 in the championship but we made it and I’m proud of everyone. The only thing that mattered for us today was the overall results and the strategy we chose was quite defensive, we wanted to hold our position and stop our rivals when we were ahead of them. It worked, but there was a lot of tension on the last lap. I’m proud that the team has come a long way since winter testing: we scored a lot of points at the beginning of the year and those results made the difference at the end of the season. The mood in the team is great, we can be proud of our work and that will help us to develop further next year. There’s a lot to look forward to.”
Guanyu Zhou (12.): “I’m so proud of this team. We gave our all in the race and although we didn’t score any points, we achieved our goal of P6 in the championship. We got what we deserved following such a long year. It was an amazing rookie season, we started off strong and it’s nice to see we ended on a positive note too. Of course it hasn’t always gone as we hoped, we’ve had some reliability issues, but I’m confident that we’ll sort it all out over the winter and have a much better season next year. Overall I really enjoyed my first Formula 1 season with all the support from my team, my teammate Valtteri and the fans. I’m grateful for all of that and can’t wait for next season.”
