Formula 1 Training Update: Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc Faces Setbacks at Silverstone

2023-07-07 21:03:46

The normal timetable for a Formula 1 racing team: fine tuning in the first practice, endurance runs in the second. The set-up will be refined in the third practice session, plus qualifying attempts, followed by the final practice session on Saturday followingnoon.

This program has been completely overturned at Ferrari with Charles Leclerc. After the fifth best time in the first training session, the Monegasse Leclerc was unable to do a single lap in the second hour of training – an electrical defect might not be repaired in time.

Leclerc is missing the endurance runs that are so important with regard to Sunday. Now it gets even worse: what was missed on Friday followingnoon, the five-time GP winner will most likely not be able to catch up on Saturday followingnoon. Because there is a high probability that it will rain at least in the third training session.

Charles would have needed a carefully tuned car, because the 25-year-old says: “We had a hard time this year on routes where the wind can play one or the other trick, in Miami, also in Baku. So it would have been important to be able to feel the car, which has now been improved, for longer in such conditions.”

“If you have an unstable car, the wind makes everything worse. This also has a direct influence on tire wear. Just like driving in the slipstream of an opponent. In such situations we struggled in the first third of the season, in Austria I felt an improvement. »

“It’s a pity that I mightn’t take part in the second free practice session. Now we have to try to get as much as possible out of Saturday. But we are aware that the conditions on Saturday will probably be completely different.”
