Formula 1 has its first dismissal immediately after the summer break: It has recently been confirmed that Logan Sargeant will no longer be allowed to compete in the remaining nine races for Williams. The traditional team dismissed the American after the Zandvoort GP.
There is no doubt about the dismissal in Formula 1, as Sargeant has repeatedly disappointed with accidents and many mistakes. But what Williams did a few days later left many fans angry.
Formula 1: Williams causes outrage after driver dismissal
What happened? Williams fired Logan Sargeant in his second year in Formula 1. The 23-year-old was unable to live up to expectations and made too many mistakes in the car. Team boss James Vowles eventually lost patience and fired him after his accident in Zandvoort.
His replacement has already been decided. The Argentinian Franco Colapinto will drive the Williams car for the first time at the Monza GP and will compete in the remaining nine races. From 2025, Carlos Sainz will then compete alongside Alex Albon.

Just a few days after the dismissal, Williams caused a huge stir on social media. Before the race weekend in Monza, the racing team’s Instagram account posted a video of an employee who had put on his work clothes in front of the garage. One detail was surprising: In the background, a photo of Sargeant can be seen on the wall.
“It really doesn’t have to be that way”
Many Formula 1 fans see this as a more than just bad timing and a small affront to the former Williams driver. “So soon after the dismissal, a video like that with Sargeant in the background? That really doesn’t have to happen,” “That is so disrespectful” and “What is the point of this ugly kicking? That is so disrespectful,” are some of the comments.
It is unclear whether it was intentional or simply a mistake by the Williams social media department. It is also not clear from the video whether it was recorded before the American was fired. In any case, it has not gone down well with F1 fans. And Sargeant? He has not yet commented on his bitter exit.
