Berlin – (dpa):

Mexican Sergio Perez, the Red Bull Racing driver, set the best time on Saturday in the third free practice of the Grand Prix scheduled in Azerbaijan on Sunday, in the Formula One World Championship.

Perez, who also had the best time in practice one, outperformed Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc of Monaco, who had the best time in practice two on Friday.

Perez achieved the best lap time on the 6003-meter Baku track, clocking one minute 43.170 seconds, followed by Leclerc, with a difference of 0.070 seconds, and Dutchman Max Verstappen in Red Bull Racing finished third with a difference of 0.279 seconds.

Defending champion Verstappen leads the world championship standings by nine points, ahead of Leclerc.

Mercedes’ British driver Lewis Hamilton, a seven-times world champion, finished twelfth.

The start of the third free practice was postponed for some time due to a collision on the same track in the Formula 2 competitions, which also postponed the start of the official qualifying test for 15 minutes.
