Formula 1 | Official: Mattia Binotto resigns from Ferrari

After a few weeks of speculation over his departure, Mattia Binotto has resigned as Ferrari manager. His departure will be effective on December 31 and he will definitely leave the company. The Swiss had taken the lead of the team following the departure of Maurizio Arrivabene.

While he had a difficult start with the secret engine deal, which led to a disastrous season in 2020, he also led the team to return to the forefront, which was effective in 2022. criticisms, Ferrari has indeed managed to recover between 2020 and 2021 and this year.

Binotto no longer had the confidence of John Elkann, the president of Ferrari, and preferred to leave his post. Like Mercedes in 2013 or Alpine in 2022, Ferrari will now change management to develop on the basis and the good dynamics created by Binotto.

“With the regret that implies, I have decided to put an end to my collaboration with Ferrari. I am leaving a company that I love, of which I have been a part for 28 years, with the serenity that comes from the conviction of having everything implemented to achieve the objectives set” Binotto said.

“I am leaving a united and growing team. A strong team, ready, I am sure, to achieve the highest goals, to which I wish the best for the future. I think it is right to to do it now, as difficult as this decision was for me. I would like to thank all the people of the Gestione Sportiva who shared with me this journey, made of difficulties but also of great satisfactions.”

Ferrari welcomes the “return of competitiveness”

Benedetto Vigna, Ferrari’s managing director, thanked Binotto for bringing the Scuderia back to the top with a title fight this year.

“I would like to thank Mattia for his many great contributions over his 28 years at Ferrari and in particular for bringing the team back to a competitive position over the past year” greeted Vigna.

Binotto’s replacement to be announced early next year. Frédéric Vasseur is now the favorite to replace Binotto. The Alfa Romeo F1 boss kicked questions regarding it in the final races of the season, but he said news would be coming soon.
