The FIA will submit new technical regulations for 2023 F1 cars this week to tackle porpoising.
It was FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem who confirmed that the sport’s governing body will seek approval of revised technical regulations for the 2023 Formula 1 season this week.
In a statement on social media, Ben Sulayem said he had “discussed the issue of porpoising with the 20 F1 drivers and 10 team principals”and that an action plan had been decided upon.
“I am happy to confirm that we will submit the updated 2023 technical regulations to the FIA World Council this week to resolve this issue, in addition to the measures already taken (technical directive at Spa) for the remainder of this season.
An agreement has therefore been reached between the 10 teams and the FIA in recent days, particularly in terms of the height of the floors. The FIA wanted, along with Mercedes F1, McLaren and Aston Martin, a 25 mm increase in the floor, while Ferrari and Red Bull in particular wanted a compromise around 10 mm.
Ben Sulayem did not announce which changes were finally retained and which will be put to the vote, but an indiscretion from Christian Horner, the director of Red Bull, makes it known that the compromise would have been found around 15mm. A value that is still low enough not to call into question the already very advanced development of 2023 single-seaters for most teams.
