Esteban Ocon might not participate in the qualifying session of the Miami Grand Prix. The Alpine F1 driver broke his chassis in an accident in EL3 and regrets his mistake with big consequences. The Frenchman has all the more regrets as the A522 was going well this weekend.
“Disappointed it’s clear, that’s the word. The chassis must be changed following the impact, I’m sorry for the team, it’s a mistake on my part. It’s a shame to come to this, the car was good before it happened” Ocon said. “It’s a tricky circuit, things are going to happen in the race so we have possibilities to come back up.”
Ocon raises the safety issue of this corner, where Carlos Sainz took a hit yesterday, and Ocon a bigger one today: “It is unacceptable that there is no TecPro there. We spoke regarding it with Carlos yesterday, with the race direction, but it was not taken into account.”
“It was 51 G anyway, Carlos hurt himself yesterday and I hurt myself today, so the FIA must push for more safety, and take a good look at these places that do not seem lead to big shocks but can hurt.”
Ocon does not lose hope of signing a good result this Sunday: “Of course the pace of the car was very good over the weekend, we were in the top 10 and it was solid from that side. So we will try to have a good race so that we can come back up.
