Horner: Norris shouldn’t have overtaken
The Red Bull team boss explains to ‘Sky’ that there is actually a “gentleman’s agreement” not to overtake in this area of the track on a warm-up lap. “They were both on an outlap,” he recalls.
“He just warmed up his tires,” he says of Verstappen, emphasizing that he didn’t expect Norris to suddenly step on the gas. He must have tried something different when warming up his own tyres.
So he probably doesn’t expect a penalty either.
Leclerc: In the end the tires ran out
At the end he was only missing a hundredth of a second. “A lap here is very difficult because if you’re fast in the first sector, you lose in the last sector,” he explains, saying he was trying to have the “balance”.
“But lost in the last sector [ich] the tires and therefore some time,” said Leclerc, who was previously on course for the best time. With regard to the race, he reminded that there might be “some rain”.
“So the race should be fun,” he announces. We hope too!
Q3: Verstappen on pole!
At least for now. The world champion ends up being 0.010 seconds faster than Leclerc! Behind them are Sainz and Perez, Ocon is “Best of the Rest” ahead of Hamilton, Alonso and Russell. Vettel is ninth ahead of Norris.
Here in the ticker we continue with the votes for qualifying – and of course the investigation once morest Verstappen! But first, here is the overview:
Q3: Investigation once morest Verstappen
The Dutchman is in trouble because his outlap almost crashed with Norris. The stewards look at this once more. So if he gets pole, that would only be conditional!
Q3: Advantage Verstappen
First of all, no surprise: Verstappen runs a 1:29.304 and is ahead of Leclerc, Sainz and Perez. Alonso is “Best of the Rest” in fifth – even ahead of the two Mercedes drivers!
Of course everything can still change in the last few runs.
Q3: Now it counts!
The overdrive is over for the top pilots, now it’s regarding pole! Twelve minutes are on the clock, so there will be two runs per driver once more. Verstappen is favourite. But what else does Ferrari have up its sleeve here?
Q2: Vettel through, Schumacher out
That was it Vettel, makes the leap into Q3. Very beautiful! Meanwhile, Ricciardo, Bottas, Tsunoda, Zhou and Schumacher, who apparently did not manage his last lap, are out.
The best time goes to Perez with a 1:29.925. However, the result is distorted, because Verstappen and the Ferrari drivers did not drive at all this time either.
Q2: Route slower?
Almost all pilots were slower in the first run than in Q1. Verstappen leads once more, but his 1:30.346 is a tenth of a second slower than before. Let’s see what’s going to happen on new tires.
Norris, Vettel, Zhou, Schumacher and Tsunoda would currently be out. The last five minutes are running once more.
