Lewis Hamilton has had problems with his car this season. A racing icon no longer believes in Hamilton’s return to the top.
Things are not going according to plan for record world champion Lewis Hamilton this season. His new teammate George Russell finished ahead of him in seven of nine races. Hamilton is already 34 points behind Russell in the World Championship standings. There is already a significantly larger point gap to Max Verstappen.
Now, with Jackie Stewart, a Formula 1 legend has spoken regarding Hamilton’s future. Speaking on the podcast The Convec Conversation, Stewart said, “Lewis is in the group of the Ayrton Sennas and the Alain Prosts. I would like to see him step down now. It’s a pity he didn’t resign at the summit.”
Hamilton should focus on passions
Three-time world champion Stewart no longer believes that Hamilton will regain his old strength. “I think he should resign,” Stewart said. The 37-year-old should focus on the future and his passions like fashion and music.
After last season and the unfortunate end in the world title fight with Max Verstappen, rumors arose that Hamilton himself wanted to resign. In February, however, he rigorously denied this. “I never said I would quit. I love what I do and it is a privilege to work with this group of people. You feel like you’re part of a team and a family, working toward a common goal.”
