Lando Norris successfully dominated the Formula 1 Singapore GP series at the Marina Bay Circuit, Sunday (22/9) night. The McLaren racer won after leading from pole position to the finish flag.

This was Norris’ third win of the 2024 season and his 11th podium.

Norris has closed the gap on championship leader Max Verstappen (Red Bull). Norris now has a 52-point gap in the drivers’ standings with six races and three sprint sessions remaining this season.

“It was a great race. There were some close calls, some little moments in the middle of the race, but I think it was all well controlled,” Norris was quoted as saying on the Formula 1 website.

Norris finished first ahead of Verstappen by more than 20 seconds. Teammate Oscar Piastri was third.

The race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit this time went smoothly for the first time without any deployment safety car.

Norris managed to accelerate from the start from pole position and managed to beat Verstappen in the first corner. Norris then began to widen the gap from Verstappen. Norris was increasingly out of reach on lap 26.

“The car was great. I could push, we were fast all race and at the end of the race I could just relax, so it was a fun race,” added Norris.

George Russell (Mercedes) finished in fourth position followed by Charles Leclerc (Ferrrari), Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), Nico Hulkenberg (Haas), and Sergio Perez (Red Bull).(M-3)

Hamilton, who started third, was the only driver on the front row using soft tires. He changed them and was penalized for pitting too early on lap 18.

With Piastri taking third place and Perez only finishing 10th, McLaren extended their gap in the constructors’ championship to 41 points over Red Bull.
