Summer break in Formula 1, but it’s not going to be quiet. In the premier class of motorsport, a decision that is more than just important is imminent.
In the coming weeks, a decision will be made as to which manufacturer will supply the tires for Formula 1 from 2025. Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Co. take a very close look.
Formula 1: Hammer decision is imminent!
In February, the FIA launched an appeal in which tire manufacturers can apply for an exclusive supply contract with Formula 1. The contract begins in 2025 and lasts until 2027. Since 2011, Pirelli has been the only supplier in the motorsport premier class, replacing Bridgestone at the time.

Now the two tire manufacturers are dueling once more. As the online portal “GPblog” reports, the negotiations are already in full swing. A decision should be made in the coming weeks, provided nothing comes up.
The successful applicant will also be awarded the contract for the FIA Formula 2 and Formula 3 Support Championship.
Pirelli advantage over Bridgestone
The best cards are said to actually have Pirelli, who is to receive a new contract despite an offer that is ten million euros lower than that of the competitor. In addition, the Formula 1 tire manufacturer is said to have invested a lot – for example in the development of tires without heating covers. Should the FIA choose Bridgestone, however, these investments, which were made at the express wish of motorsport’s premier class, will prove useless.
Pirelli explained to “GPblog” that it is not yet clear who will be awarded the contract. Mario Isola, who is responsible for Formula 1 at the tire manufacturer, is confident that the offers will be positive for his company.

“I think we’ve been a good partner over the last 12 years – not just a tire supplier. We always try to deliver a tire that (the Anm. d. Red.) meets expectations. We’ve had a lot of changes in that time, not just the big changes, the 18-inch tyres, the wider tires in 2017 or the new Power Unit in 2014 – along with the high-abrasion tires at the beginning,” said the Italian. The exact time of the FIA announcement is not known. The decision is expected in August. Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Co. will listen very carefully, just like the teams.
