Formula 1: Heavy crash of Williams driver Logan Sargeant in Zandvoort

The US driver lost control of his car just 15 minutes after the unit was released at the exit of turn three. The Williams hit the guardrail with its right flank on the wet asphalt in Zandvoort. Sargeant’s car caught fire, but the 23-year-old was able to get out on his own.

“I’m OK,” he said over the radio. The Williams had to be towed and the guard rail repaired. Sargeant has been under scrutiny at Williams for a long time because of poor performances.

The third free practice session, which lasts 60 minutes, was only restarted after a 44-minute break. At the end of the day, Alpine driver Pierre Gasly was at the top of the rankings, ahead of Kevin Magnussen in the Haas and Kick-Sauber driver Valtteri Bottas.
