Formula 1 | Hamilton had warned Mercedes F1 about his lifestyle: ‘Don’t control me’

Lewis Hamilton has a lifestyle that may be surprising for an F1 driver, but that has never stopped him, quite the contrary, from signing incredible performances.

The highlight of this ‘Hamilton lifestyle’ was perhaps in 2018 at the Singapore Grand Prix. A few days before the weekend, Lewis Hamilton was in New York for Fashion Week and attended several parties, including the Tommy Hilfiger show.

Some in the paddock then wondered: Wouldn’t Lewis be too distracted or tired?

But on Saturday in Singapore, Lewis Hamilton got everyone to agree by signing a mind-blowing pole… The debate was over!

For Vanity Fair, the Mercedes driver returned to this episode. Lewis knew in particular that Singapore would be a test for his lifestyle…

“If I have to do these other things, I have to be the best too. [sur le circuit]. And I did the best lap I had ever done. And people were there wondering: How the fuck is he doing? »

Lewis says he warned Mercedes when he signed in 2013 regarding his extra-F1 occupations: he had obtained greater freedom for himself, while Ron Dennis tightened the screw at McLaren.

” Here is who I am. These are things I like to do. Never try to control me in this regard. I’ll give it my all, and I’ll help you win championships. And I’m going to show you that being different isn’t bad for your brand. »

A driver who doesn’t like to drive (on the road)

Another originality of Lewis Hamilton is to be a driver… who actually doesn’t like to drive on roads open to the public. Especially on the heights of Nice, the Briton can even be stressed, he says.

“I just think I find it stressful. I try not to do things that don’t add anything to my. Listen, we’re on these roads [près de Nice], everything can happen. It’s stressful for me. This road is crazy. »

Another feature of Lewis Hamilton’s life that can sometimes be disconcerting: his assumed veganism. But here once more, the controversy is over, rightly justifies the Briton.

“I mean, I’ve won five world titles since [que je suis végan], I was more consistent than I have ever been in the past. So you just have to prove people wrong. And that’s what I did. »

Hamilton talks regarding his life as a couple

Lewis Hamilton, however, had to make a sacrifice to keep up with this rhythm of the F1 calendar: on his life as a couple. He explains his journey on this issue – following separating from singer Nicole Scherzinger.

“I learned the hard way. I learned the hard way…”

“I haven’t talked regarding it much, I’m just super focused on my job. »

“I realized that I can’t do two or three things at once, I have to focus on one. I really wanted to go through a growth process to get to a point where I’m happy on my own, comfortable in my space. So that if I ever meet someone, it’s an addition, rather than saying “I need you in my life”. »
