Third fastest in the second free practice session of the Spanish Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton noted that porpoising affected his W13 much less than in previous races.
Like many other teams, Mercedes F1 has brought many new features to Barcelona, particularly in terms of its floor or its front wing. And obviously, the seven-time world champion is very satisfied with the progress they seem to be making.
“I’m very happy with our progress. So I want to say a very, very big thank you to everyone at the factory for not giving up.”
“We’re not the fastest yet but we’re on the right track. It’s the first time we’ve driven in a straight line without any rebounds, and it’s much better even if there is still a little .”
“We are finally starting to see the potential of the car. It’s still difficult but it’s still much better than before.”
“I’m very grateful for these developments, now we need to figure out how best to make them work. We have a lot of data to analyze tonight.”
“And I think we can do even better tomorrow, hopefully we can chase those ahead of us.”
Russell is a little less optimistic for the rest of the Grand Prix
Second this Friday followingnoon just ahead of his teammate, George Russell is a little more cautious for the rest of the weekend.
“Honestly I don’t know where we are because in Miami we were fastest and here we are second.”
“For sure the car reacts differently, and we don’t have straight line porpoising anymore which is good.”
“But we’re still struggling a bit in some corners, and that’s an area where we need to improve.”
“I think Red Bull looks very, very strong, it looks like they are the go-to team at the moment. We have to work on the data we have gathered.”
