Mick Schumacher was retired from Kevin Magnussen at Haas F1 this weekend in Bahrain. The German driver is still looking for the reasons for this domination of the Dane, who returned to Formula 1 less than two weeks ago.
“Kevin was able to put in crazy times when I mightn’t, so I have to figure out if it’s me or the car” said the 22-year-old. His boss, Günther Steiner, explains that Schumacher must discover a new way of racing, and a different behavior at the front of the peloton.
“He is in a good position now because he can analyze and look at what he can do best and then he will definitely score points. The air is thinner” at the front of the gate, Steiner says.
Schumacher, however, wants to be confident regarding his ability to solve the problems encountered: “It shouldn’t be too difficult to get the issues under control. There’s still a lot of untapped potential in the car.”
Ralf Schumacher, Mick’s uncle, believes it will be a necessary apprenticeship for the young driver: “It’s exactly what a young driver needs and so Mick has to use it. In the end it was a bad weekend for him, but he will learn a lot from it.”
