According to the police, the three had entered the area in the western, wooded area of the track and advanced to the gravel beds in turn 3. They were unable to block anything, but the climate activists apparently wanted to chain themselves up.
Heimo Kohlbacher from the Styrian State Police Directorate confirmed in response to an APA inquiry that three people were handed over to the police by the security forces at the Ring. They were questioned at the Knittelfeld police station in the morning to clarify what they wanted at the site.
“It is not yet certain whether it was climate glue,” said Kohlbacher. First, the identity of the trio will be established. The start of Formula 3 was delayed by about ten minutes, after which everything went smoothly.
The journey to the Formula 1 Grand Prix on Sunday morning was tough, but there were no major disruptions. There had already been a large influx of people to the training sessions and the sprint race on Friday and Saturday. Kohlbacher also spoke of a number of reports under the Youth Protection Act and of violations of the Pyrotechnics Act. However, a balance will only be drawn after the race on Sunday evening.
Some celebrities were also in the paddock at the weekend: host Mark Mateschitz was in the thick of the action with his partner Victoria Swarovski and Corinna Schumacher, wife of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, was probably also accompanying their son Mick, who is currently fighting for a cockpit for next year.
Film music composer Hans Zimmer, a fan of the Mercedes team, reinterpreted the Austrian anthem, which will be heard before the start of the Formula 1 race.

Governor Christopher Drexler (ÖVP) was at the ring on Saturday and Sunday – on Saturday with State Councillor for Sport Karlheinz Kornhäusl (ÖVP), for whom it was the first Grand Prix. On Sunday, State Councillor for Tourism Barbara Eibinger-Miedl (ÖVP) raved about the advertising value of the images that are going around the world thanks to Formula 1 from Styria.
Added to this is the added value that has been generated over the ten years since the comeback of the premier class of motorsport in Spielberg. Every year, the rooms and beds as far away as Graz and in the entire region are fully booked. Drexler once again thanked Dietrich Mateschitz and Red Bull for their commitment in Aichfeld. In addition, the weather optimizes “the professionally organized weekend”. “Styria and Formula 1 belong together.”
Regarding the possible activists, the governor said that they would deprive the many fans of a peaceful race and “endanger the social climate”. Eibinger-Miedl is of the opinion that the population is already aware that something must be done about climate change: “I don’t think there is any need for such disruptive actions.”
