Alpine F1 has been hard at work bringing its latest evolution to the British Grand Prix this weekend. Team principal Otmar Szafnauer admits the proximity of the Enstone factory to the Silverstone circuit is the only reason for such rapid development.
“If this upgrade weren’t going to be brought to Silverstone from Enstone, we probably wouldn’t have. So our spares are going to be brought over there on Saturday morning, and hopefully we won’t have any. no need” note Szafnauer.
“If it had gone any further we probably wouldn’t have improved the car. So without spares and the risk of an accident we wouldn’t have done it, but yeah we’re lucky to be to the side.”
Szafnauer is happy with the work done by his team and the performance development of the A522. He now wants the performance curve to continue to evolve while maintaining reliability.
“I think we did a good job from an overall performance point of view. I think we are sometimes better on Saturday than on Sunday. And we have to focus on making sure we are now reliable.”
