Former Yaroslavl deputy convicted of bribery reduced sentence

The Rybinsk City Court today, February 17, granted the petition of the former deputy of the Yaroslavl Regional Duma Roman Fomichev and replaced the unserved part of the sentence of imprisonment with forced labor, Olga Kozlova, press secretary of the Yaroslavl Regional Court, told Kommersant.

On May 11, 2022, Roman Fomichev was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 4 of Art. 291.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (mediation in bribery on an especially large scale). As follows from the verdict, the deputy handed over 1.49 million rubles to the deputy head of the administration of the government of the Yaroslavl region, Eduard Grebenshchikov, from the director of OOO Specialized Developer Yakutinveststroy. for assistance in concluding a state contract for the purchase of 30 apartments for orphans in Yaroslavl.

Fomichev was sentenced to two years in a strict regime colony and taken into custody in the courtroom. He must also pay a fine in the amount of 2 million 998 thousand rubles. (twice the amount of the bribe). In the summer of 2022, the regional Duma deprived the deputy of his powers.

The decision to replace deprivation of liberty with corrective labor has not yet entered into force and can be appealed. If the decision is not reversed, Roman Fomichev will continue to serve his sentence not in a strict regime colony, but in a correctional center in Rybinsk. There are no guards in such centers, convicts must live there and perform work determined by the bodies of the penitentiary system, with the deduction of part of the income in favor of the state.
