Co-founder and former CEO of Yandex Arkady Volozh is seeking the lifting of personal sanctions in the European Court of General Jurisdiction. Volozh’s lawyers spoke regarding this.

“The co-founder of Yandex is trying to get sanctions lifted,” Bloomberg reports. Volozh’s lawyer clarifies that the businessman is not now the main shareholder of Yandex, since he does not have legal ownership or control over the company. He transferred his 8.6% stake to an independent trustee.

However, these arguments were rejected by the European Court, the report said. This is due to the fact that Volozh allegedly was and remains a leading businessman involved in the Russian economy.

In 2022 Volozh hit under sanctions of the European Union (EU). Then he stated regarding his departure from the Yandex company, which he led for 25 years. In August 2023, businessman spoke once morest the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, and following he asked the EU remove sanctions from him.
